MSIF - Merseyside Special Investment Fund - Liverpool

Merseyside Special Investment Fund provides funding, equity, investment and loans for businesses in Liverpool, Merseyside and the North West.MSIF provides funding to support all sorts of businesses across a range of sectors and for a variety of needs. 
 
We invest in small to medium sized businesses (less than 250 employees) but this includes the very small end, the much larger end and everything in between. MSIF can provide funding to sole traders, partnerships and limited companies. 
 
Something we are very proud of is our track record of investing in local businesses and the impact that has had on the region:1,707 businesses supported by MSIF,£151million total amount invested,14,060  jobs created or secured through MSIF investment,£285million money brought in from the private sector through MSIF investment.
 
Because our team is small we can build close relationships with our clients.  Most clients will only deal with one person throughout the investment process and one person post investment.MSIF has been investing in Merseyside businesses since 1994. We are a local, independent organisation which is not bound by national policy - all lending decisions are made here in Liverpool.

Product and Services

MSIF can provide funding up to £2million+. As an independent organisation we are not bound by any particular parameters so we don’t set a maximum figure up to which we will invest but it is usually around the £2million mark.

Our message is simple: If you need funding, come and talk to us. We will try to make the investment happen whether it is us providing the finance alone or bringing in another investor(s) to make up the full requirement.

MSIF has three funds which are currently investing and these can be combined to create a unique package which is tailored to the individual needs of each business. We look at each application in depth and then work out what is for the client and structure the investment accordingly. As mentioned above, we can also create packages with banks and other investors.


MSIF manages the Merseyside Small Loans for Business Fund in its capacity as the Community Development Finance Institution (CDFI) for Merseyside. CDFIs are government funded schemes which provide finance to entrepreneurs and businesses that struggle to get finance elsewhere for reasons such as insufficient track record or poor credit ratings.

The Merseyside Small Loans for Business Fund provides small loans – between £3,000 and £50,000 to new and growing businesses. Most sectors can apply (property is excluded) and an element of the fund is specifically to invest in businesses creating or using technology and innovations such as those in the creative and digital, biotechnology and energy and environmental sectors. Finance is only part of a package that a business needs to start or grow. Other factors such as getting your financial management right or devising and implementing a successful marketing strategy are very important for a business to be sustainable and successful.

As part of our finance package our clients receive ongoing support from our portfolio team who can put you in touch with people and organisations to help you. We also have a network of experienced individuals who can join your business as a non executive if you need someone with knowledge and expertise to help you grow or break into new markets.
